Fees and rebates

Spoken Word Psychology keeps costs clear, with no surprises.

Session fees

PsychologistSessionFee
Clinical PsychologistStandard, 50 minutes$265
Clinical PsychologistExtended, 90 minutes (for example EMDR)[your fee]

Fees depend on each psychologist's level of experience and qualifications. The fee for your session will be discussed when you book and depends on which psychologist you see.

Medicare rebates

If your GP prepares a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you can claim a Medicare rebate for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. Sessions with a clinical psychologist at Spoken Word Psychology attract the higher rebate, currently $149.05 per standard session. You pay the session fee at the time of the appointment, and the rebate goes back to you through Medicare.

What you pay after the rebate (50-minute session)

Session feeMedicare rebateYour out-of-pocket cost
$265$149.05$115.95
$295$149.05$145.95

Your out-of-pocket cost is the session fee minus the Medicare rebate. Medicare sets rebate amounts and updates them each year on 1 July, so these figures may change. Your exact fee is confirmed when you book.

Private health insurance

Some funds provide a rebate for psychology. Rebates vary by fund and level of cover, so check with your insurer before your first session.

How to get a Mental Health Treatment Plan

Book a standard appointment with your GP and tell them you'd like a Mental Health Treatment Plan so you can see a psychologist. Ask them to refer you to Spoken Word Psychology. You don't need to name a particular psychologist. Bring the referral to your first session, or ask your GP to send it to fax (03) 9923 6838 or email admin@spokenwordpsychology.com.au.

Spoken Word Psychology works closely with GPs in Melbourne's west and welcomes referrals. GPs: see our referrer information for how to refer.
